Pitching Rotation

The Pitching Rotation Page is separated into two sections - Locked Starts and Open Starts. Open Starts are the upcoming games in which we determine our pitching rotation. Locked Starts identify pitchers for tonight's game, tomorrow's game, and the next day's game. Each morning during processing the rotation moves up one slot including the top open slot moving into the Locked Starts section. Pitchers in Locked Starts cannot be changed, but they can be traded or released resulting in a no-SP penalty.

Each slot in the Open Starts have dropdown lists of eligible pitchers. The SP's name, BBM record, and number of starts in their stat pool is displayed. Once the selections have been made, click Save Pitching Rotation. A confirmation that BBM received your selections will appear at the top of the page, highlighted in green. Note that if a rotation is not accepted it is because the league's LHP rule was violated or there isn't enough rest between starts.

Just as in MLB, starting pitchers need to rest between starts in BBM. Starting pitchers must have 3 days of rest (2 days during playoffs) before they can start again. This means that a BBM team must have at least a 4-man rotation. Most teams carry more than that.

A pitcher who has both starts and relief appearances can only be used in relief when he is not locked-in as a starter.

NO-SP PENALTY

An open slot in the Locked Start section results in a no-SP penalty (which effectively gives the other team 3 addition runs in the final score). Relief pitchers will be used for the game. If those are exhausted an AAA pitcher will conclude the game (giving up 2 earned runs for each inning pitched). Note that if the first listed relief pitcher happens to have a starting performance in his stat pool it will be used to begin the game.

A pitcher without a start in his pool may be locked into a start. If he starts a game in MLB before his BBM game is processed it will be used. This is a risk, however, because if he does not get a MLB start in time you will incur the no-SP penalty.
