Any pitcher who has made an MLB appearance as a relief pitcher can be used in BBM as a reliever (RP). Handedness is never a factor with RPs; there is no need to carry a lefty specialist.
To be used in tonight�s game RPs must have been on the active roster the previous day. Players obtained as free agents or through trades can be promoted today and used in the bullpen for the next night�s game.
Also, a pitcher who is locked in to start a game cannot be used as a relief pitcher until his start is completed.
While �Saves� earned in MLB do not factor into BBM games, some managers prefer to have a bullpen of closers. Others will have a mix of middle relievers in order to have long relief appearances. The end goal for all is the same: the give up the fewest number of earned runs from the bullpen.
Most managers will carry at least 5 RPs, while some use more.
Note: Hitters who appear in MLB as relief pitchers cannot be used as relief pitchers in BBM. Also, RP at-bats are not included for hitting stats and Total Offense.
